Prolaborate
Overview
Due to the overwhelming success of the Enterprise Architect modelling platform with over one million users, Sparx Systems developed the additional products Prolaborate and Pro Cloud Server in 2018. This makes the information collected in the models available to more and more people who do not do the modelling themselves.
Prolaborate has now been implemented in over 480 companies, including more than 90 Fortune 500 companies. This means that information can be used collaboratively by a wider audience to analyse and support decision-making. Model views from Enterprise Architect are often shared with a lot of internal teams (sales, support and development) and their customers.
Main Features of Prolaborate
Prolaborate is a web-based platform that facilitates collaboration, visualisation and communication of Enterprise Architect models. Prolaborate extends the capabilities of Enterprise Architect by providing a centralised repository for storing and sharing models and enabling stakeholders to access and interact with model content via a web browser.
Prolaborate improves the usability, accessibility and value of Enterprise Architect models by providing a collaborative and interactive platform for stakeholders to work with model content. Prolaborate promotes transparency, efficiency and alignment throughout the development lifecycle, contributing to the success of complex projects and initiatives.
Web-Based Access
Prolaborate provides web-based access to Enterprise Architect models. Stakeholders can view, review and comment on model content without having to access Enterprise Architect.
Interactive dashboards
Prolaborate offers customisable dashboards that allow users to create personalised views of model information, metrics and charts. Dashboards are customised to the specific needs of stakeholders to provide relevant insights and facilitate decision-making.
Collaboration and Feedback
Prolaborate supports collaboration between team members by allowing them to provide feedback, comments and annotations on model elements. This encourages active participation and facilitates communication in distributed teams.
Visualisation
Prolaborate offers various visualisation tools and techniques to present model content in a clear and understandable way. Users can create interactive diagrams, tables, graphs and reports to effectively communicate complex information.

New Features of Prolaborate 5
Prolaborate 5 specifically supports Application Portfolio Management (APM). The APM Accelerator for Sparx Architecture Platform is an accelerator package that Sparx offers for Enterprise Architecture teams that want to introduce Application Portfolio Management.
Review Reminder accelerates projects
Review Reminder is a new function that sends emails and in-app notifications and reminds participants of tasks. This feature is designed to help users stick to their project timelines. It ensures that users do not overlook any outstanding reviews of artefacts, keeping projects on track.
To this end, all users who are part of a review will receive email and in-app notifications when a review reaches its completion date or when they need to perform outstanding actions.
Work in multiple languages
Prolaborate now offers a French, Dutch and Arabic interface. This overcomes language barriers and improves collaborative work through easy navigation. After installation, administrators can change the default language (English) to their preferred language, which is listed in the language settings.
Publish models to SharePoint
The Prolaborate Macro for SharePoint Cloud bridges communication gaps and enables teams to share Enterprise Architect models. This allows you to use architecture and modelling information from your Enterprise Architect models on MS SharePoint sites. No export/import or copy/paste is required to always see the latest information from the models.
Once configured and published, you don’t have to do anything on the SharePoint site, even small changes to a diagram are automatically displayed on the SharePoint site.
Rich Text Editor for Dashboards
The enhanced rich text editor significantly improves documentation in dashboards. The new editor replaces the HTML editor widget and offers improved functionalities for users working with customised texts and formatting options. The editor is also suitable for customising email templates.
Lifecycle-Roadmaps
Dynamic diagrams - one diagram, multiple reports
Prolaborate users very often use diagrams to visualise data. We have noticed that many users create multiple charts for the same object and each chart displays different data points. With the dynamic diagrams now available, this effort is significantly reduced. Users now have more intuitive reports to analyse information based on different attributes.
List views and inline editor for simple model updates
List views, which are comparable to Excel-like interfaces, are always the first choice when it comes to displaying and updating model information. Therefore, the list view and the inline editor are activated in all important model view functions of Prolaborate:
- View artefacts (or subordinate elements) of a package
- Listing of elements based on diagrams and reports
Card Widget
Prolaborate users prefer concise insights from complex architectural information to focus on important aspects of the business. The Card Widget highlights business information and key metrics from the model in the dashboard. This provides users with valuable insights into important aspects such as
- Total Cost of Applications (TCO)
- Number of applications based on key attributes
- Percentage of applications with significant impact
