Prolaborate
Overview
Due to the overwhelming success of the Enterprise Architect modelling platform with over one million users, Sparx Systems developed the additional products Prolaborate and Pro Cloud Server in 2018. This makes the information collected in the models available to more and more people who do not do the modelling themselves.
Prolaborate has now been implemented in over 480 companies, including more than 90 Fortune 500 companies. This means that information can be used collaboratively by a wider audience to analyse and support decision-making. Model views from Enterprise Architect are often shared with a lot of internal teams (sales, support and development) and their customers.
Main Features of Prolaborate
Prolaborate is a web-based platform that facilitates collaboration, visualisation and communication of Enterprise Architect models. Prolaborate extends the capabilities of Enterprise Architect by providing a centralised repository for storing and sharing models and enabling stakeholders to access and interact with model content via a web browser.
Prolaborate improves the usability, accessibility and value of Enterprise Architect models by providing a collaborative and interactive platform for stakeholders to work with model content. Prolaborate promotes transparency, efficiency and alignment throughout the development lifecycle, contributing to the success of complex projects and initiatives.
Web-Based Access
Prolaborate provides web-based access to Enterprise Architect models. Stakeholders can view, review and comment on model content without having to access Enterprise Architect.
Interactive dashboards
Prolaborate offers customisable dashboards that allow users to create personalised views of model information, metrics and charts. Dashboards are customised to the specific needs of stakeholders to provide relevant insights and facilitate decision-making.
Collaboration and Feedback
Prolaborate supports collaboration between team members by allowing them to provide feedback, comments and annotations on model elements. This encourages active participation and facilitates communication in distributed teams.
Visualisation
Prolaborate offers various visualisation tools and techniques to present model content in a clear and understandable way. Users can create interactive diagrams, tables, graphs and reports to effectively communicate complex information.

New Features of Prolaborate 5.6
Smarter, Faster and Connected
Prolaborate 5.6 makes enterprise architecture easier to access, govern and act on by strengthening how teams collaborate around models, manage users and turn architecture data into real-world, actionable insight that stakeholders can use.
Unified authentication across Enterprise Architect and Prolaborate
In earlier environments, organisations had to configure Single Sign-On (SSO) separately for Enterprise Architect (EA) and Prolaborate. This meant duplicate work for administrators and added complexity in managing users.
With the upcoming release, Prolaborate can now serve as the Identity Provider (IdP) for EA models. This integrated setup allows users to log in to EA directly from the desktop application using their Prolaborate credentials. EA administrators simply configure OpenID in the EA model with Prolaborate’s Client ID and Client Secret.
Real-time chat between EA and Prolaborate
The upcoming release takes collaboration to the next level with real-time chat between Enterprise Architect (EA) and Prolaborate users. For the first time, teams working inside EA can connect instantly with stakeholders using Prolaborate, breaking down silos and accelerating decision-making.
Secure model layers
The new feature strengthens access to Enterprise Architect (EA) models in Prolaborate by introducing enhanced authentication linked directly to EA model security.
Users can now access Prolaborate repositories using their EA model credentials or, if enabled, authenticate through EA OpenID. This approach ensures that only authorised EA users can view model information, while giving organisations flexibility in how login is managed.
Centralised user and group management
Managing users across multiple repositories has often required duplicate effort. In earlier versions, administrators had to recreate the same user groups, permissions, and access settings in each repository, a process that was both time-consuming and prone to errors.
With the new centralised User and Group Management, administrators can now set up and control access from a single location at the application level. This streamlined approach reduces overhead, simplifies onboarding, and ensures that policies remain consistent across repositories.
Built-in audit log viewer
In earlier versions, accessing audit logs in Prolaborate often required backend access or manual file retrieval. This slowed investigations, made compliance checks more difficult, and limited visibility for administrators.
With Prolaborate 5.6, a built-in audit log viewer is now available directly in the user interface. Administrators can track user activity and system events without leaving the application, making it faster and easier to monitor security and compliance.
Smart artifact search
Finding specific artifacts in Prolaborate could previously take multiple steps, especially when working with large models.
With Prolaborate 5.6, the search function has been redesigned to deliver results more quickly and accurately. The refreshed interface makes easier to apply filters, and the optimised engine ensures faster responses, even when searching across complex models.
Improved handling of large reports
Previously, downloading large reports or datasets in Prolaborate meant keeping the download window open until the file was ready, forcing users to wait and sometimes even risking application crashes.
With Prolaborate 5.6, downloads are now processed in the background. This means you can continue working on other tasks while the system manages the file generation. Once the report is ready, you’ll receive a notification and can download it instantly.
7-level hierarchical charts
In earlier versions, Prolaborate supported only limited depth when setting up nested charts. For teams dealing with large or complex models, this restricted the ability to drill down into deeper insights.
With Prolaborate 5.6, you can now configure Nested Pie and Heatmap charts with up to seven hierarchical levels. This added depth makes it easier to explore complex structures, understand relationships, and uncover richer insights.
Multilingual interface
Prolaborate now supports Swedish as an interface language, alongside English, French, Dutch, Arabic, Spanish, and German, expanding accessibility for global teams.
