"System and software model transformations are becoming a key element for the development of distributed control software for large scientific interdisciplinary facilities. They help in dealing with increasingly large systems and enable rigorous validation and verification.
As a case study the operational European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope (VLT) control system is analyzed, and a summary of the lessons learned over the past 10 years is presented.
After introducing the VLT software platform and its application framework, the architecture of COMODO model transformation toolkit is described. Concrete examples of its applicability to software development, rapid prototyping, and formal verification are provided."
